Where to sleep :
In Cambodia, you should not find any problem to get a hotel or a “guest house”in all cities. It should cost around 5 to 10 $ per night according to the room. You can also count on the hospitality of the monks in the temples. If you choose this option, assure yourselves to be far from the big centers and to find a small temple in a village to be safe from the local’s gangsters because you will be not assure to get a lock room for the night. Maybe, you will sleep outside. And if you are lucky, you could find hospitality from local family. Just be preparing than they will be relatively poor so some time they could ask you to pay for all of them.
Qualities of the road :
The roads in Cambodia are good to bad. Specially the one from Poipet to Siam Reap is the worst that we ever done. What ever, it is worth to take no luck and it is better to equip the bike with mountain tires.
Food :
You will be able to find food and water easily on the road. Assure yourselves to always know the price before paying for your meal because they will charge you the double price. One meal in Cambodia shouldn’t cost more than 2 000 riel (0,50 US$) in a local restaurant but they will always ask you for a 1 U.S$. A bottle of water should cost 500 riel’s.
Level of dificulties :
Cambodia is completely flat, but you will maybe find the ride difficult if you are there in the raining season or if you ride the road between Poipet and Siam Reap. Some main roads are really nice.
The must :
Cambodia regroups several sets of temples of the time of Angkor and Pre-Angkorien. You will surely find interesting to visit Angkor Wat and his collection of temples around Siam Reap. The region of Kampot also offers several opportunities. The city is located to some minutes of the sea and to the foot of the mountains. Therefore, you can go hiking to the National Park of Bokor. For our part, the place that we prefer was the region of “Kep sur mer”. Since a long time, this village is the place number one in Cambodia to take a vacation.
Security:
Cambodia is relatively safe, but you have to always pay attention. You should not have any problems if you remain on the main roads during the day. In the night, just be sure to be in a good area with other people and let the bike at the hotel. If you plan to go to the north or in the east of the country, check about the latest news; possibility of bandit.
