Where to sleep :
You will find a place to sleep in all cities of the Country. You should count on average 4 to 9US$ for a room without bathroom. If you plan to stop in the villages for the night, you gone a have to ask the hospitality of the local people to offer you a place to pitch your tent. It is also possible to ask to the fire station the permission to install your tent on there land. They always have a big field behind the building (forget it in the big cities as KL). Than, you can sleep in security and you can have a good shower after a long day on the road.

Qualities of the road :
The roads in Malaysia are excellent. You can ride easily with roads tires. It is very pleasant to ride cause their have a large sideroad on every national road for motorbikes. All drivers are generally very respectful of the cyclists. They never pass to close of you and they generally give some encouragements. The helmet is not obligatory, but it is always very counseled to wear it.

Food :
It is extremely easy to find food and water. Every 5 or 10 km, you can see a food stand and buy water in bottle. For every meal (including a bottle of water), you should pay around 1, 25 to 2, 00 US$. It is good to get some provision of seasonal fruits in your pannier. You never being sure that you will find a fruit stand on your way. Those snacks are much appreciated when the heat becomes nearly intolerable. We also find than the Dromstick is a good alternative to beat the heat! So cheap.

Level of dificulties :
The two coasts of the peninsula of Malaysia have good quality road. They are generally very flat. If you prefer challenge and climbing road, we suggest you to cycling in the middle of Malaysia thru the jungle. If this option is your preference, keep in mind than you gone a have to ride around 120 km per day with high level of humidity to get each city. You are sure there no tourist. There is ether, a small possibility to see tigers and elephants crossing the road at the end of the day. If you looking for a real challenge, you will be satisfy with the road between Batu Cave and Genting Highland. It start at an altitude of 200 or 300m to finish at 2000m in only 35 km. Personally it is the most difficult road than I met!

The must :
We counsel you strongly to travel on the east coast is the peninsula. There is less traffic, more exotic wildlife and you will have a better perspective of the Malay culture. The best beaches are also on this side of the country. We counsel you particularly Tioman Island (Salang Beach) and to reserve your nights to Ella Place Resort. You can also visit several other beautiful islands close of the border of Thailand. The most beautiful beach that we found is Long Beach on Pulau Perhentien Kecil. Inland, it’s very stimulant to do an expedition in Taman Negara (Jungle) by yourself or whit a guide to visit the tribes and met the wild life a bit closer. If you do it by yourself, just be sure to get a good idea of the track because some are very wild and bushy. Keep in mind that most of the tiger get up around 6:00 p.m. to go hunting. In this national park, they count around 130 tigers. On the west coast, it is interesting to visit Kuala Lumpur, the capital and some islands as Pulau Penang and Pulau Langkawi. In general, on this side of the country, people are less conservative and more touristic. A must for cyclist, you have to visit our friend David.
