Varanasi - Delhi : April 11 to 24, 2007
From Varanasi, we took the train to return to Ayodhia, one of the 7 sacred cities of India. Incredible! We took 9 hours to travel less than 200 km. We had not been able to reserve a ticket before leaving than; we were obliged to be in the general class. During the long hours spend in the train station; we met a nice young gentle man. In the train, he had been able to unmasking a thief. He suggested him strongly to leaves the train and informed him that he would tell the security about his bad intentions. Thank you! We finally reached Ayodhia at two o'clock in the morning; our hotel was already closed for the night. We jumped the fence and slept straight on the pavement of the hotel parking, waiting for the sunrise. That morning, we took the road at 7:00 Am in direction of Lucknow, the capital of the Uttar Praddesh. For the breakfast, we stop for eating in a small truck hut and when we give him the money he refuse to give us back the change. Poor boy!! After the trip in Vietnam and China, we are now reacting very quickly. In the idea to get my change back or an equivalence, I grab all his tomato from the table and I put them into my pannier. They were really good to eat at lunch time.
We took 2 days to reach Lucknow. It is there than I had my first true bike accident. I did a face-to-face with a scooter. The traffic is so crazy in India. There is no logic on the road. This dummies guy was going in the wrong way, and when every bodies in from of me move away, we did have time to do anything, and we crash. I was really lucky to wear my helmet. My bike was a bit broke, but with the help of a street mechanic guy, we have been able to setup bake my front wheel. It is at this moment, that we decided to take the train to go directly to Delhi, the capital of India. What history!! We wasted interminable hours to register our luggages. The Indian people are really unproductive. In Canada, we would do it in only 15 minutes; here it took, more than 2 hours and a half. We were very lucky to have a reservation for the sleeper class, and because the train was not crown at all, so we have been able to sleep all night.
We arrived at 7:00 Am in Delhi. We found a good hotel for the week in the tourist district of New Delhi. On the other hand, Paharganj, is terrible place! We hate this place. It is so polluted by the circulation and the noise and you can’t walk freeway, always somebody try to sell you stuff. We stay her only because we are waiting for our Pakistan visa. On the other hand, the town of New Delhi is relatively very nice; a lot of park and tree. They just built the metro, so the circulation is much better than everything we saw before. During our stay here, we also give a day visit to the aquatic park of New Delhi, question of refresh our self from the heat (over 40). We intend to take the road in two days toward the region of Punjab. It is where the Sick community lives. We should reach Atari (border Pakistan-India) in around 1 week.
